The Mercury Template is the result of Jason watching his mom (Cheryl) cut hundreds of hexagons over a period of several weeks. Somehow, Aunt Cheri had convinced Cheryl to cut the fabric, so Cheri could make 3 quilts. Below is her gorgeous Flower Basket Quilt which was hand-pieced. Some day, it WILL get quilted!

Upon hearing his mother exclaim for the umpteenth time, “There has to be a better way!” Jason took a serious look at what she was doing.

The Mercury Template revolutionizes the 60 Degree shape cutting process with a unique, new combination of design and method. Add precision to rotary cutting; combine with speed of strip cutting, and mix with the desire to make accurate cuts that count each and every time, and you’ll end up with the Mercury Template.

Total customization – empowers you with a multi-use tool, which allows you to cut any size shape from 1/2” to 8” in height. This means it works with ALL your favorite patterns utilizing 60 Degree shapes!

Even if the size hexagon you want is not represented by the engraved guidelines, I will show you an easy step-by-step process to make exactly the size you want. Of course this includes metric measurements as well! More information found at Adapt My Pattern.

The Mercury Template includes two sets of Fabric Strip Width Marks, making other rulers unnecessary. Just pick the size shape you want and the Fabric Strip Width measurement is already calculated. Want the associated triangles, these are pre-measured, too!

The Mercury Template is made from a high technology, yellow-green acrylic plastic. It is translucent, and works great with every color and fabric we’ve used it on!

Simply put, all the markings on the Mercury Template are laser-engraved. The registration is precise and the angles are extremely accurate. More accurate than template shapes in some quilt books I’ve purchased!

The Mercury Template was designed to be user-friendly. The numbers are enlarged for mature eyes, in outline form, and can be used by both right and left hand dominant people.

The Internal X Cutting Channel is the signature feature of the Mercury Template and results in several Unique benefits.

Safety - The large surface area provides a much needed space for your support hand; especially nice when cutting smaller pieces.

Less slippage – By promoting a more vertical downward cut, there is decreased pressure against the side of the template. This allows for a more precise and accurate cut, and radically reduces template slippage.

Double the cutting edge – with two angles in one. There’s no longer a need to rotate your cutting mat, walk around your cutting surface, or otherwise twist yourself into an uncomfortable or unsafe position. You use the same cutting stroke through both channels, starting with your rotary cutter closest to you and cutting away from your body. Take a short step to either side, and you are ready to cut the second channel. You’ve done twice as much work, with a single cut stroke combination!

Tear-drop edges make inserting your rotary cutter much easier, while still preserving the integrity of the template’s construction.

¼” Seam allowance guidelines on either side of midline, and down the short axis of the Mercury Template result in added versatility. By off-setting your fabric strip, you can easily cut the correct size Half Hexagon shape, while retaining the long axis seam allowance. Use this to easily judge the fabric width needed for your companion triangles. If you are a machine quilter that likes to mark your seam allowance, the guideline down the short axis saves you from reaching for another tool.

At 10” x 13” there is plenty of straight-edge length to help cut your fabric strips!

Compare the cost of all the individual templates you would have to purchase, in order to cut ALL these shapes and you still would NOT be able to customize to the same degree the Mercury Template allows. Not including the ease of use and efficiency factors!
